Marrawah went from windy to insane as usual! Day 1 started as a warm up jumping session at Greens while we waited for a front to come through. By afternoon the wind was gusting up to 57knts at Cape Grim!

BOL was one hell of a mess but we had to try it. The tide was low and the reef was sucking dry! If you look at some of the photos you can see the top of the reef in places. Anthony Houston, aged 55, showed us that your never to old to get totally worked! Seriously though - the guy is an inspiration to all. If you keep this up Anthony I think we may have to ban you from coming! Tone it down a bit!

BOL was out of control and everyone was in survival mode. There is not a lot anyone could do except try and get in and out of the danger zone. By the end of the day everyone was so exhausted we couldn’t stay up and party!

Day 2 brought Sunny warm light winds with a substantially smaller swell. The wind was a little light but the day produced fun conditions. The swell we wanted went though during the night. It was decided after much driving around that we should sail at Greens Beach.

As usual Justin Tapson sat in the background and made it all happen. Justin was judge, photographer and video camera man. He did a fantastic job. Thanks Justin I don’t know what we would do without you.

Results

Hardcore Prize - Anthony Houston
Most improved - Nick Taylor

Open 1st - John Pott
Open 2nd - Kaleb Smith
Open Third - Simon Hansen

Thanks for coming to everyone. It was good to see some new faces.

Hope to see you again at the next one!

PS - video will be online very soon! For now check out the Photo section of the Gallery area!

John Pott

A modest number of Nomads gathered on the day of the Winter Solstice to celebrate the big swells of Marrawah.

You know those days you have - when everything just goes right? Well Anthony Houston was having one of those days -on steroids!

I don’t know what happened but he was dropping into the bigger sets of the day and carving it up. Anthony is in the Grand Master Category - awesome stuff Anthony!

The conditions where changing every 8 hrs so the forecast was bloody useless most of the time. We sailed Back of Lighthouse for Day 1 and 2. Day 3 the swell dropped so we had to sail at Greens. The trade of was that it was sunny and quite warm for winter!

Unfortunately our Pro Shots photography couldn’t make it so Justin Tapson had to do both the filming and the photographing. This means that the footage from the photo gallery only exists as stills. He did a fantastic job to cover the 3 days - thanks Justin!

The video footage will be up on YouTube shortly.

We had some new faces which was great. Thanks to SHQ for supplying 2 Twin fin wave boards from Quatro and JP. Thanks to JP and NeilPryde and SHQ for prizes.

Also thanks to Simon for amping me up to call Nomadic this time.

Thanks to everyone that came - it was excellent fun - this is what it is about.

Cya again soon!!!

John Pott

What a day! Marrawah turned it on for Nomadic yet again. The 2 locations for this gathering where Netley’s, on day one, and Back of Lighthouse day 2.

A decent crowd showed up for Nomadic this year with participants from all over Australia. The conditions where not for the faint hearted. All who entered the water on Sunday have my utmost respect.

The day started messy and got better and better with time. By the end of the day we had a very well formed left hander that was super fast and heavy. Alot of footage was gathered so please check the Gallery section of the Nomadic website.

After reviewing footage the decision process came down to the top sailors being. Kaleb Smith, Simon Hasen, Peter Stevenson, Hudson Godfrey-Smith and Nick Taylor. In the women’s Lisa Edlund-Tjemberg was outdoing half of the guys. A lot of guys did not venture into the waves because of the rip combined with massive swell. To see Lisa cutting it up out there was very cool. Those waves where heavy and fast. It takes guts to do that ........ or insanity - either will do!

Peter Stevenson was also the winner of the KA sail raffle. Thanks KA for supplying us with the 4.2 wave sail. It will be well used by Peter - (and probably won’t last long if he keeps sailing so deep into the wave! - wait and see the final video footage edit.) The Ask Huey Sunglasses where given to the top sailors listed for there efforts. Great sunglasses - thanks to Tony Marsh from Ask Huey.

Thanks to the local crew who have supported and built Nomadic from day one. You guys are the true soul sailors. You get out there and do it instead of talking smack. I was a little disappointed with some local sailors. I understand family commitments but for those who don’t have that there is not much of an excuse. We hold it on a weekend so you can make it. Try and support wavesailing guys - It is alot of fun at these gatherings.

Well done to everyone who got on the water. The Nomadic Rashies sponsored by JP and SHQ where fantastic. I think everyone was stoked with keeping one.

I also want to give a special thanks to Hudson Godfey-Smith from JP and Paul Nederhoed from SHQ, for supporting Nomadic. You guys have been paramount in evolving Nomadic into a great thing for wavesailors.

A big special thanks to the Tribal elder of wavesailing - Justin Tapson - the real and only Marrawah Man. Thanks for your support running Nomadic and getting footage for me. Also thanks for the friendship and help coaching me for the nationals.

Thanks to everyone who sat and grabbed footage I really appreciate - especially if your not a wavesailor - yet?

Finally a big thanks to my younger bro Ian Pott who unfortunately has defected to WA. Ian has been responsible for a fair bit of the ground work organising and preparing for this years Nomadic.

Thanks to everyone ....... hope to see you at the next gathering.

Kind regards

John Pott

You may be able to replace your broken gear in prizes!!

Expression session format will be similar for Nomadic II, although the second day may have the possibility of having an elimination process to determine prize awarding.

Winners are not those who can perform a hop, skip and a jump on the water but those who go hard and cross the safety zone. New comers will have to prove themselves before being taken to the big places.

Be prepared to travel!!!! It is only 5 hours at the most if you live in Tasmania.
