Consistent reef break. I have seen this wave at around double mast but starts to close out. It is a left hander and is best ridden on a WSW to SW direction. The swell must be above 4 metres. WSW swell direction is best. Can be ridden on a 3 - 3.5 metre break but tends to close out in a section at the end of the ride.
For first time sailors - better to have Justin Tapson along to give you pointers. There is a break further out that looks possible but don’t do it. The water current out back is too fast - if you break something it might be a long day paddling. Best to stay in the bay! Flat water all around this break. The walk into the water is a bit painful - all reef, no sand. There are 2 places where it is best to launch from - a rudimentary boat ramp on the south end and a small bay in front of the shacks on the north end.
Works when ever the conditions say WSW - SW wind with a 4 m WSW ground swell or bigger. Probably best chance of scoring it at its best between September to January. The photo above was taken in May.
Competent sailors only - Its worth sailing but its not a place to learn on.
Great wave!!!
