Thunder Reef

This a reef break just off the base of Mount Cameron. Works best in a SSE - South cross off wind direction. I haven’t sailed it but its the biggest wave of the area - that is within 2 Km of the shore line. I have been told double mast waves (and sometimes bigger) can be found here when ground swell gets over 6 metre. Most surf it in around 2 metre swell. Thunder has a history of breaking boards and leg ropes for surfers.

This is a Jason Polakow wave - not for the faint hearted. If you do want to try it out, then stay away from the start of the break. This area has a strong swirl of water, that should be avoided if possible.
